What is a carafe literally? How do people pour drinks every day? Do they hold the carafe in their hand and pour water into their glasses?

People are so accustomed to this pouring behavior as if it's the only way. Drawing inspiration from the Archimedes principle, Überfluss provides an unconventional method to demonstrate how people can fill their glasses, prompting them to reconsider everyday items and behaviors.

The basic principle of this carafe is that the liquid level inside the cylinder is controlled by the change in atmospheric pressure inside and outside of the middle cylinder.

1. Place the cylinder with the filter in the middle of the carafe and add fruit and water.

2. Seal the cylinder with the lid, which contains four inclined closable air holes inside.

3. Lift the cylinder with the knob; the rubber band will stretch under gravity. Air enters through the holes, balancing the atmospheric pressure inside and outside the cylinder, allowing water to pass through the filter.

4. After the cylinder is completely lifted out of the water, press the knob down. As a result, the rubber band will retract, the knob seals the air holes, and the cylinder becomes a closed space, enabling water to flow out through the spout.
